Description: Fascinating Rhythm, the classic standard from George & Ira Gershwin, receives a fresh, high-spirited treatment from arranger George Darrah. A straight-ahead swinger (at a medium-up tempo), this chart is perfect as a set opener!
After the opening melodic statement, in which the eternally-catchy melody is heard in the sax and trumpet sections, improvisational space is provided for alto sax and trombone soloists. The shout chorus—using clever, creative phrase extensions to create formal tension—morphs directly into the “head out” (closing statement of the melody), with the alto sax soloist reappearing at the end to bring the chart to a satisfying conclusion.
The arrangement is of intermediate-to-advanced difficulty.
